Jacob Church joined The University of Alabama’s Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice as a full-time instructor and academic advisor in Spring 2021. He will graduate with his Ph.D. in Sociology from Kent State University in the Spring of 2021. His dissertation examines racial and gender sentencing disparities in the population of North Carolina felony offenders sentenced between 2000 and 2018. Beyond his dissertation, Jacob is interested in how private and public organizations perpetuate racial, gender, and intersectional inequality. He has co-authored publications in journals such as Sex Roles, Sociological Inquiry, and Sociological Imagination. At UA, Jacob teaches Research Methods, Race and Ethnic Relations, and Introduction to Sociology.
