Dr. Adam Lankford was recently named a finalist for the Blackmon-Moody Outstanding Professor Award, the premier faculty honor at The University of Alabama.

The award is for a singular, exceptional, or timely work in the form of research, product, program, or published material that reflects credit and recognition to the professor, the field of study, our students’ education, and The University of Alabama. The Blackmon-Moody focuses on a particular accomplishment that is innovative, creative, useful, or captures the imagination.

For Dr. Lankford, this refers to his recent book The Myth of Martyrdom: What Really Drives Suicide Bombers, Rampage Shooters, and Other Self-Destructive Killers, which was hailed as “especially timely” on Foreign Policy’s “What to Read in 2013” list and recognized as a “book to watch out for” by The New Yorker. The book was endorsed by fellow scholars at Harvard University, Stanford University, and Georgetown University, and received excellent reviews from Nature, Scientific American Mind, The Christian Science Monitor, The Mail on Sunday, Financial Times, The National, Family Security Matters, Citizen Times, and other national and international outlets.

Dr. Lankford was also recently selected as a Leadership Board Faculty Fellow for the College of Arts & Sciences.

Please join us in congratulating him!
