Graduate Student Nour Akl and Dr. Jane Daquin’s Research on Misconduct in Prisons

Under the guidance of Dr. Jane Daquin, Nour Akl is working to examine and establish patterns of prison misconduct and how they relate back to the criminal careers of offenders. This study seeks to understand behavior continuity within the different contexts of pre- and post-incarceration, and utilizes a person-centered statistical method along with latent class analysis in order to identify the different types of rule breakers in prison. Examining whether certain types of rule breaking is associated with prison sanctions of varying severity is important for understanding the effects of the covariates of misconduct, as well as predicting the in-prison behavior of generalist and specialist offenders.
