There has been a rise anti-LGBTQ+ demonstrations by far-right groups across the country. In The Columbus Dispatch, Dr. Matthew Valasik discusses the recent protest by Proud Boys and Patriot Front at the Red Oak Community School’s canceled “Holi-Drag Storytime” event in Clintonville, Ohio . Dr. Valasik contends that groups like Proud Boys and Patriot Front clearly meet the criteria of what constitutes a “criminal gang” and should be treated as such by local law enforcement. The failure of police to act limits the potential to gather meaningful intelligence on these groups, reduces community trust in police, and further segregates law enforcement from the community.
