Monetary Prizes for Outstanding Presentations!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Submit an abstract no later than February 15, 2013, by e-mail to cjdept@cj.as.ua.edu. Your abstract must be a 100-150 word description of the key points of your research project, and should list the name of your faculty mentor. All abstracts will be reviewed for suitability.

All participants must work with a faculty mentor from the Criminal Justice Department. The presentations must be based on the student’s own original research on an important criminal justice or sociological issue. Each oral or poster presentation must be 10-15 minutes long. Oral presentations should be done in PowerPoint. All poster presentation participants must be present to answer any questions about the presentation.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Student Participant

**This competition is open for Criminal Justice majors, Criminal Justice minors, and Sociology minors only!!!!**
Must submit a 100-150 word abstract. Students who do not submit a FULL abstract will be disqualified.
Preference will be given to students who have not presented more than twice in the same competition.

Presentation

Must be the student’s own work. Presentations that consist largely of a faculty member’s work will be disqualified.
Presentations must focus on issues relating to criminal justice or sociology.
Presentations based on work in other departments will be disqualified, even if the student has majored in that discipline.

Award

Awards will be made on the basis of excellence.
If the judges feel that a student participant’s work does NOT merit an award, then no award will be made.
